Trip Update
Projects accomplished during this trip include:
1. Worked with 20 women from
the community on life skills & therapy to assist in personal
healing and growth.
2. Built a chicken coop for 8
laying hens so the children have some protein and to teach
care of living creatures.
3. Planted gardens, reset
composting.
4. Students fro the entire
school (315) participated in electives covering topics such
as drawing, science, composting fitness, gardening, crafts,
woodworking (including use of tools) and taught health
classes.
5. Built bunk beds for the
new dormitories.
6.Built shelving for the
dormitories.
7. Gave away clothing and 100
pairs of shoes.
8. Repaired fans and many
other items.
9. Provided two days of
medical clinics.
10. Gave HIV/Aids,
drug, sex workshop to the older children.
11. Gave an introduction talk
on Micro-credit to community.
12. Purchased mattresses,
sheets, pillows and blankets for bunk beds.
13. Purchased tables, chairs
for a start to the community center.
14. One on one work with some
of the children in need which continues electronically.
15. Gave personal support to
the children.
16. Literacy assessment for
women's group.
17. Reset the shade area.
Dormitory Update: Blue House
Effect Canada financially supported the building of the
second floor at the life skill center. Hal is to e used for
dormitories and the other half for t community resource
center. The building is nearing completion and the hopes are
that the children will be moving into their rooms before the
end of June. Many more children will be in need of
sponsorship so that the center can afford to keep them in a
safe and caring environment.
The 2009 Winter Trip Dates are
scheduled for Jan 17. - Jan 25, 2009. |
